It’s that time again: Reese Witherspoon has unveiled her new book club pick for March on Instagram and it’s titled Anita de Monte Laughs Last by Xochitl Gonzalez.

Earlier this afternoon, The Morning Show star, 47, posted her book review on her personal page and the official Reese’s Book Club IG account. Witherspoon starts off the video by saying that she is “excited” to share this month’s book club pick because it centers around a topic that she “really loves,” which is art history.

“I have always loved painting and this book—it just dives right in about the mysterious world of art and which artists get celebrated, and which don’t,” she explains in the short clip. “I’m going to give you a little spoiler here: Women don’t get celebrated as much as male artists.”

Anita de Monte Laughs Last (which just debuted on bookstore shelves today) tells the story of a young Latina woman named Raquel, who is a third-year art history student attending an elite university. And yet, she feels like an outsider among her peers.

But her life changes when she starts dating a well-known art student and begins climbing the social ranks. During this time, she stumbles upon the story of Anita de Monte, a rising art star who passed away in 1985. As the story progresses, Raquel learns that her life mirrors the forgotten artist more than she thought.

In the caption of the post, Witherspoon goes on to share how she had “goosebumps” just talking about the story. “I can’t wait to hear what you think,” the Legally Blonde actress wrote.

For February, Witherspoon’s book club pick was DéLana R. A. Dameron’s debut novel titled  Redwood Court. In her video review, the Big Little Lies alum shared how the book was such a nostalgic read, writing in the caption, “This book is filled with a sense of nostalgia as Mika takes us down memory lane, sharing stories of her Southern Black family through a collection of vivid vignettes.”

Yup, this book is definitely going on our 2024 reading list
