Editor’s Pick of the Week: Through My Window 3: Looking at You (2024)

In the third and final installment of the Spanish romance film series Through My Window, Ares and Raquel decide to part ways. When they cross paths again in the winter, they start to question whether they should have ended their relationship.

Inspired by the novels written by Ariana Godoy, the film series consists of two additional films: Through My Window (February 2022) and Through My Window: Across the Sea (June 2023).

1. Spaceman (2024)

Adam Sandler portrays an astronaut named Jakub, who embarks on a solo research mission in space. During the trip, he develops an unlikely friendship with a mysterious creature (voiced by Paul Dano) that’s hiding as a stowaway on his spaceship. 

The story is based on the novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař. In addition to Sandler and Dano, Spaceman also stars Carrie Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar and Isabella Rossellini.

2. Code 8: Part II (2024)

  • Cast: Robbie Amell, Stephen Amell, Sirena Gulamgaus
  • Run Time: 100 minutes
  • Genre: Action & adventure

The new movie takes place five years after the events in the first installment. When a 14-year-old girl is targeted by a group of corrupt police officers, criminal duo Connor and Garrett are forced to work together…again.  

In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, director Jeff Chan (Plus One) revealed that Part II was a necessary conclusion to the first installment. “I want Connor to have to really deal with the ramifications of his actions in Code 8,” he said. “But despite his current situation, Connor is a good and noble person at heart—a protector.”

3. Code 8 (2019)

  • Run Time: 98 minutes
  • Genre: Action & adventure

The film is set in a fictional world where four percent of the population has special abilities. (They’re known as PWPs, or “people with powers.”) The story follows a young man who's on the run after committing a slew of crimes. The question is: Can he escape the police?

Code 8 originally premiered in 2019, but it’s gaining popularity on Netflix after the release of the sequel, Code 8: Part II. Cast members include Robbie Amell, Stephen Amell, Sung Kang, Laysla De Oliviera, Kari Matchett and Shaun Benson. 

4. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)

  • Cast: Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Pratt, Charlie Day
  • Run Time: 92 minutes
  • Genre: Family comedy

Meet Mario and Luigi, plumber brothers who are working on a water main in Brooklyn. When the pipe leads to a mysterious new world, they embark on an epic adventure to find their way back. 

The comedy is a must-watch for anyone who played the namesake video game. Not only is the movie filled with familiar references, but it also features a stellar cast including Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Charles Martinet, Seth Rogen and Keegan-Michael Key.

5. The Legend of Hercules (2014)

  • Cast: Kellan Lutz, Gaia Weiss, Scott Adkins, Roxanne McKee
  • Run Time: 98 minutes
  • Genre: Action & adventure

Meet Hercules (Kellan Lutz), the son of Zeus (aka king of the gods). When Hercules is caught in a forbidden romance, he’s sold into slavery where he endures battle after battle in a gladiator arena. The movie follows his journey to reclaim his kingdom, no matter the consequences. 

The Legend of Hercules originally premiered in 2014, but it just recently became available to stream on Netflix. The fantasy film was directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2).

6. Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (2023)

  • Cast: Lana Condor, Toni Collette, Colman Domingo, Annie Murphy
  • Run Time: 91 minutes
  • Genre: Action comedy

After her mother bans her from going into the ocean, 16-year-old Ruby Gillman goes against her mom's wishes and discovers that she's the heir to a kingdom of mythical sea creatures known as Krakens. With her newfound abilities and knowledge, she must protect her home from a powerful threat.

This movie is a fun watch for all ages, and it includes positive themes about identity, self-acceptance and parent-child relationships.

7. 27 Dresses (2008)

  • Cast: Katherine Heigl, James Marsden, Malin Åkerman
  • Run Time: 110 minutes
  • Genre: Romantic comedy

Jane (Katherine Heigl) has a problem saying “no” to people—so much so that she’s been a bridesmaid 27 times. When her younger sister gets engaged to her secret crush, she must put her own feelings aside for another wedding. 

In addition to Heigl, other cast members include James Marsden, Malin Åkerman, Edward Burns, Judy Greer and Krysten Ritter.

8. Mea Culpa (2024)

  • Cast: Kelly Rowland, Trevante Rhodes, RonReaco Lee, Shannon Thornton
  • Run Time: 120 minutes
  • Genre: Legal thriller

Kelly Rowland portrays a criminal defense attorney who takes on the case of a charming artist accused of murdering his girlfriend. But the lines between work and pleasure become blurred when they form a burning connection—that soon turns dangerous.

In an exclusive interview with TUDUM, the film’s writer and director Tyler Perry shared that his idea for the film came from “older thrillers” of the ’80s and ’90s. “It was fun to explore the best and worst of humanity through the genre of an exotic thriller,” he explained.

9. A Madea Family Funeral (2019)

  • Cast: Tyler Perry, Cassi Davis-Patton, Patrice Lovely
  • Run Time: 109 minutes
  • Genre: Goofy comedy

When Madea and the fam head to Georgia for a family reunion, things don’t go according to plan. To make matters worse, they’re forced to plan an impromptu funeral. 

A Madea Family Funeral is written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry. It is the eleventh installment in the Madea franchise.

10. Think Like a Man Too (2014)

  • Cast: Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, Michael Ealy
  • Run Time: 105 minutes
  • Genre: Comedy

The movie picks up where the original ends, with the "band of brothers" pursuing romantic relationships. Everything changes when the group heads to Las Vegas for a wedding, where they attempt to outdo each other during the bachelor and bachelorette parties. 

The rom-com is a sequel to Think Like a Man, which was based on Steve Harvey’s 2009 book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man.
